A Labor of Love: LIFE UPDATE

What’s up, Crap Givers? Is anyone alive out there? Is this thing on?

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, and I’ll be the first to admit I fell into the mudslide that is holiday relaxation, winter break, food, and friends. Contrary to parental belief, I’ve also been using that time to get my life together! I’m back at Marist, back in classes, and adjusting slowly to school work/social life balance.

I can’t believe it’s my last semester at Marist. I started this blog in the spring of 2016 from my freshman dorm room. Undoubtedly, freshman year of college was the most difficult year of my life for many reasons. Like so many people around me, I struggled with school, relationships, mental health, and everyday obstacles that life fires at us like a cannon. When I created this site in the spring of 2016 was a way for me to channel negative energy into creating something where I can talk about the things I love! This blog has seen phases where I have been attentive and not so attentive, but one thing that has remained is that, unlike school and work, this blog was my safe place where I have always written what I want. Over time, it has evolved into somewhat of a personal portfolio of my writing outside of my journalism major and internships. ifyougiveacrap.com has always been my labor of love, no matter how intensive or effortless.

For those of you that give a crap enough to know things about me outside of this blog, you may already know what lies ahead of me this semester. For those of you who don’t, hold on tight (I’m not that exciting, but lets pretend I am:)!

On January 21st, I started as an editorial intern for TigerBeat Media. I am now a regular content creator for TigerBeat.com! Since even I have trouble keeping up with the tween media, I will be posting what I create for them under the page, ‘TigerBeat’.

Also beginning in January, I began writing articles for Slutmouth.org. Slutmouth is an intersectional feminist ‘zine that focuses on anything from mental health, societal standards, and the overall empowerment of women. Since I love the way magazine writing does not suppress a creative voice like hard-news journalism, I’m thankful for the opportunities I have with both magazines to hopefully further my career. I am currently working on article #2, so stay tuned to see my inner girl boss/feminist shine! They will be published every other week until May and you can find them here or on Slutmouth.org.

I hope everyone has a 2019 as good as Kylie Jenner. Kylie Jenner wins at everything.
