Sapphire / noun / A precious stone of a beautiful transparent blue. It is a variety of native alumina akin to the ruby. / It is also known to the Old French as safir / It isalso known to me as a cobalt fire / Known on the page under the nose of a reader as a ‘soft fire” / The icy glow burns a hole in me without touch / It needs not be physical to be important / From not even the eyes of a lover does it need recognition / It knows the soft power of it’s beauty / It knows immense force with no strength / It does not demand notice like a diamond / Or imitate inferno like a ruby / A sapphire knows it is already seen / It knows how to shine in the darkest of rooms
