As if almost forty seasons of failed engagements wasn’t enough, The Bachelor franchise has disappointed me in a way I didn’t expect. Anyone who knows the show knows that when a contestant is onscreen, a bubble appears with their name, age, and occupation. Well, America’s beloved farmer and former bachelor, Chris Soules’ bubble will now read: Chris, 35, Criminal. The farmer was the cause of a hit and run drunk driving incident that left a man dead. Is it time for ABC to change it’s acronym to stand for “A Background Check”?
It’s no doubt that the show’s credibility is not it’s number one priority. Out of over thirty seasons, only six couples are still together. SIX. But does ABC need to speed up the credibility train?
As a journalism major, I see the importance of branding and being consistent for your audience. Could this be the beginning of the downfall of the ABC franchise? Just like every season, the final rose has to come eventually. But unfortunately for Chris Soules, his came with a lot of thorns….
